What is BasisPoint?
BasisPoint incorporates a full suite of process modules to manage investment trading
and operations from the front office through the back office. All data is managed
and maintained in a common database for unsurpassed reporting capacity and management
control.
Why should you use BasisPoint?
BasisPoint was built on a rules-based, flexible foundation allowing for expansion
of its securities processing engine to maintain and process new instruments as they
are created. The system is wholly date agnostic. Any portfolio or group of portfolios
can be processed independently of all others.
BasisPoint is an enterprise class standardized accounting engine that is distributable,
scalable and fault tolerant. The BasisPoint engine is comprised of distinct components
that can be distributed onto multiple machines, which have been tuned and scaled
specifically for the unique needs of each component. The technology can be extended
across accounting domains.
.NET framework
Portability is achieved using Microsoft’s .Net framework. BasisPoint can run on
any platform that supports the .Net environment allowing highly heterogeneous configurations.
Scalability and distribution are achieved by leveraging .Net components. BasisPoint
is designed to scale up to handle large installations using multiple components,
while also having the capacity to handle smaller installations using a single version
of the software.
Reliability is achieved by utilizing .Net transactions to provide a guaranteed contract
between the BasisPoint client (user interface) and BasisPoint database engine. This
is then extended to provide additional fault tolerance through redundant component
configurations.
XML
XML is the primary language used to communicate between BasisPoint clients (user
interface) and the BasisPoint engine, allowing a clean separation of display and
content. For example, holdings are defined in our Definition Language (an XML DTD)
and can be transformed to a specific display format (such as HTML for a Web browser)
using an XML XSLT. This enables the development of various user interfaces from
a Web based interface, a text based interface, to a complex ActiveX, AJAX or C#
user interface.
